This application is to be completed by applicants who are interested in serving as a Legacy Network Advisee and is currently seeking mentorship. The James Beard Foundation’s Legacy Network Program (LNP) aims to train mentors across the culinary industry and connect them with mentees from the POC community.  The LNP will prioritize applicants from Black and Indigenous communities and cultivate alternative professional networks within and across them. LNP will expand to include other under-served and marginalized communities, emphasizing the necessity of cross-cultural, peer-to-peer networks. 

The James Beard Foundation’s mission is to celebrate, nurture, and honor chefs and other leaders making America's food culture more delicious, diverse, and sustainable for everyone. The LNP supports this mission by recognizing the legacies of chefs in generations past and training and fostering a community of rising leaders. 

Program: 

Over the course of seven months (September 2024 - March 2025), program participants will develop relationships across the Legacy Network. Starting in  early September, Advisees will participants in 10 hours of executive leadership coaching. Advisees will also work with a leadership coach, prior to the Legacy group calls with all participants. Required program components include 60-minute industry specific pods calls and 90- minute group calls taking place virtually ranging between Sundays and Tuesdays each month, financial literacy and mental wellness coursework.

 The Legacy Network Program is currently open to members of the POC community, Black and Indigenous applicants will be prioritized.

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Identify as a member of the Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) Community
  • LGBTQIA+ applicants are welcomed
  • 18 years of age or older *The Calling Wine Fellow must be at least 21 years old
  • Resides within the United States and territories
  • Recently entered or up to five years of experience in the culinary industry
  • Plans to remain in the culinary, food journalism and/or hospitality industry for at least five years
  • Has personal goals and aspirations best served by mentorship and peer-to-peer networking
  • Open to feedback
  • Full commitment and participation of all Legacy program sessions (approximately 25 to 30 hours total)
